CHAIR IN GENERAL LINGUISTICS, UNIVERSITY OF NIJMEGEN This chair is dedicated to the leading of teaching and research in General Linguistics in the Faculty of Letters. Candidates are sought who can stimulate and integrate teaching and research by bringing general theoretical principles to bear on different aspects of language description, in which there are many existing strengths within the University. Date of appointment will be January 1, 2000. The focus of the Chair is Syntax and Semantics. The candidate should have: * Proven teaching and research strengths in(morpho-) syntax and semantics * Experience in the application oftheory to the description of different languages, and in the application of different theoretical frameworks to concrete descriptive problems The candidate should preferably be familiar with semantic approaches to grammar, the empirical study of language behavior and language use, or computational methods in linguistics. These are research emphases both in the Faculty and in its research partners. Obligations will include forming a strong research profile, seeking external funds for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, both for the Department and Faculty within the University and in collaboration with its immediate research partners, University of Tilburg and Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, as well as the national linguistics organization LOT. Terms of employment Prerequisites include a doctorate in linguistic research and experience in university teaching and research. The appointment is at the professorial grade 15 or 16 (max. annual salary NFL. 157.878,-) .
