Dear list members, The Haitian Student Organization at SUNY Stony Brook will be holding its annual conference on the theme: IMPORTANCE OF MOTHER TONGUE IN EDUCATION. The focus is: BILINGUAL EDUCATION & INTEGRATION OF CREOLE IN THE HAITIAN CLASSROOM. Five specialists will convene to look at these issues in a panel discussion: Michel Degraff, linguist at MIT Yves Dejean, linguist at the State University of Haiti (SUH) Flore Zephir, sociolinguist at the University of Missouri, Columbia Charles Pooser, sociolinguist at SUNY Stony Brook Georges Fouron, bilingual educator at SUNY Stony Brook The conference is scheduled for April 21, 1999 between 1:30-4:00PM in the Student Union Auditorium here at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
