Internship Opportunity Spoken User Interface Design, Active Voice Corporation - Seattle, WA Active Voice Corporation, a rapidly growing and dynamic telecommunications software company, is seeking a Spoken User Interface Design Intern to push the limits of technology in developing a voice activated unified messaging system. Active Voice is the world's leading independent provider of PC-based voice processing systems, which include voicemail, automated attendant, and call management software solutions. We are looking to take our technology to the next level by using spoken dialogue as the engine which drives our products. The Spoken User Interface Intern will function in the Advanced Products and Technology department, which is the research arm of Active Voice Corporation. This position will leverage research and evaluation of current spoken dialogue systems, the analysis of discourse/conversational patterns, and human-computer interaction to build and refine the next generation spoken user interface, using speech recognition and speech synthesis, for our telecommunications software solutions. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate strength in a combination of the following areas: spoken dialogue, human communication patterns, and conversation progression; verbal and written communication skills in American English; critical thinking and analytical problem solving; technical capability/propensity for learning technical concepts; and computer programming, voice over IP, and/or IP telephony. This is an outstanding opportunity for students pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Technical Communication, Speech Pathology, or Computer Science looking to work on cutting-edge speech recognition technology. This is a full-time internship during the summer and will ideally turn into a part-time internship during fall term 1999.
