ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LINGUISTICS


Subject to availability of funds, one entry-level, tenure-track assistant
professor in Linguistics beginning September 1999.

Education and Experience:

Required:	Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or closely related field by August
1999; plus demonstrated evidence of and potential for continuing
scholarship in an applied area of linguistics.

Preferred:	Graduate educational background in Theoretical Linguistics and
Composition Theory; experience teaching introductory and applied
linguistics; experience working with minority students, teaching ESL,
developmental writing and/or reading; interest in distance learning.

Contract Assistant Professor of English at Korea University

Korea University has an opening for a full-time Contract Assistant
Professor of English, one-year contract (renewable) to teach English
composition and conversation to English majors at university level.
The contract begins at September 1, 1999. Duty hours are 12 hours per
week. The candidate must be a native speaker of English, and must
have a Master's degree in English Literature, Linguistics, TESL, or a
related area. The salary is approximately $20,000 a year. The
university provides housing ($1000 a year) and documents for a work

un(e) collaborateur (-trice) de recherches mi-temps
selon les conditions de remuneration statutaires de la fonction publique

Missions (conformement learticle 62 de la loi sur leenseignement
superieur du Land de Brandebourg):
- Vous participerez aux travaux de recherche dans le domaine de la
linguistique et philologie romanes (plus precisement dans des projets de

recherche dans le cadre de la linguistique variationnelle
[geolinguistique, sociolinguistique et pragmalin-guistique] et de la
linguistique historique des langues romanes, en mettant plus
specialement 1eaccent sur le domaine gallo-roman [francais et occitan en

contact]);
- vous participerez leenseignement et donnerez un cours de 2 heures
hebdomadai-res de linguistique francaise et gallo-romane (et
eventuelle-ment italienne);
- vous fournirez un travail de recherches dans le but de poursuivre
votre qualifica-tion (th\232se de doctorat dont le sujet a trait aux champs

deinvestigation cites plus haut).
Formation et profil exiges: vous \234tes titulaire deune matrise de
1inguistique romane; vous avez le go\251t de la recherche et vous vous
engagez preparer une th\232se dans le domaine des champs deinvestigation
cites plus haut.
Profil souhaite: francais langue maternelle; connaissances de base de
leallemand ou intention deapprendre leallemand, eventuellement
connaissances de leitalien; eventuel-le-ment experience de releves
empiriques et de leinterpretation de donnees dans le do-maine de la
dialectologie, de la sociolinguistique ou de la linguistique
variationnelle; experiences dans la conception de resultats de
recherches destines \234tre publies, expe-riences dans des travaux de
Desktop Publishing.
