Dear colleagues, Some of you no doubt already know of Steve Lapointe's passing. Steve, who had been Director of the Linguistics Program at the University of California, Davis, died of liver cancer on February 26, 1999, at the age of 47. He came to Davis from Wayne State in 1991 and served as Program Director until his hospitalization in early January of this year. Steve's contributions to morphology are well known, and it was he who organized a conference on morphology on the Davis campus in 1995, the proceedings of which appeared last year. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Contributions may be sent to Lesley Byrns, Linguistics Program, One Shields Avenue; UCD; Davis CA 95616.
