Associate Acquisition Editor, Linguistics Blackwell Publishers is seeking to expand its publishing in theoretical linguistics and has an opportunity for an Associate Acquisitions Editor to work closely with Steve Smith and Philip Carpenter in planning, commissioning, developing, and publishing books in theoretical linguistics for advanced undergraduates and above. Duties include: the profitable management of the linguistics back- and front-list; the development of publishing strategy and identification of key targets; the acquisition of book projects; the development of book proposals and manuscripts; the management of all contractual negotiations; the close communication with team members and staff on both sides of the Atlantic; a campaign of university campus visits in both North America and Europe; and attendance of all major conferences. Candidates must have an advanced degree in linguistics and some publishing experience, and be prepared to relocate to Boston. University of Arizona Department of East Asian Studies Faculty Positions The Department of East Asian Studies invites applications for 2 Visiting Assistant Professors or Lecturers, one in Early Chinese Thought and one in Chinese Buddhism. Both positions will teach undergraduate courses, including those in lower-division general education. (Candidates with doctorate may also teach graduate courses.) M.A. & exceptionally strong language background are required. We also seek a full-time Adjunct Lecturer in Chinese Language. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency and good communication skills in English; M.A., preferably in Applied Linguistics; and evidence of strong college-level language teaching experience, preferably in the U.S. All positions are for one year, beginning Fall 1999.
