Subject: Y2K problem solved!
We are delighted to announce that our Y2K problem has been
solved, thanks to the generosity of two private donors who have
offered to pay the whole cost of the upgrade.
These donors wish to remain anonymous (no, it's not Bill Gates--
he's not a linguist). So we are thanking them via this message, not
only on behalf of the LINGUIST crew but also on behalf of you, our
12,000 subscribers. Their remarkable generosity helps all of us--in
fact, it's probably no exaggeration to say that it indirectly benefits a
large part of the linguistics community as a whole, And we are
extremely grateful.
We would also like to thank, most sincerely, the other individuals
who sent in contributions and advice in response to our Y2K plea.
Though the donated funds will not now have to be spent on a
listserv upgrade, they will certainly be put to use. Our annual
budget is always very tight, as most of you are aware. So, unless
you notify us otherwise, we will gratefully employ your Y2K
contribution in funding student editors.
Below are listed the donors who responded so promptly to our Y2K
plea. We will shortly be sending out an organized list of all our
1999 benefactors. All deserve our heartiest thanks.
