Following the recent announcement of the forthcoming retirement from the
University of Durham of Professor Joseph Emonds (and subject to final
budgetary approval) we expect shortly to advertise the position of
Professor of Linguistics with specialization in syntactic theory, to
commence October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The advertisement
will appear on the LINGUIST list and on the LAGB distribution list, as
well as in the usual print media. For preliminary information on an
