Division of Computational Linguistics


The Division of Computational Linguistics in the Dept. of Linguistics
at the University of Tuebingen, Germany is seeking applications for a
postdoctoral (or predoctoral) position to work in the area of
automated language learning. Applicants who have developed
relevant computational tools (such as finite-state utilities, pattern
matching, statistical language modelling, etc) are encouraged to
apply. The position is expected to last until the end of March 2002
(pending forthcoming approval).

This position is sponsored by the European Commission: Training and
Mobility of Researchers (TMR) and is part of the project ``Extending
Computational Grammars by Learning'', coordinated by Prof. John
Nerbonne at the University of Groningen. The successful candidate will
be expected to interact with the postdoctoral researchers at the other
participating sites: University of Groningen, SRI Cambridge,
University of Antwerp, University College Dublin, ISSCO Geneva and
Rank Xerox Grenoble. For details of the project see:

The European Commission has imposed firm funding restrictions on TMR
postdoctoral positions: 

 The postdoc must be 35 or younger and a European citizen, and must
 "cross a border" to accept the position. This last point means:
 must not have worked more than 18 of the last 24 months in the
 country in which they accept the position. They further may not be
 a citizen of the country in which they accept the award. Details of

coordination avec les �quipes de R&D IBM r�parties dans le monde.
L'�quipe bas�e � Paris a la double mission de faire avancer la Recherche
sur les probl�mes sp�cifiques � la langue fran�aise, et de calculer et
optimiser les mod�les acoustiques et linguistiques du fran�ais dans tous
les domaines de technologie du langage (reco, synth�se,
compr�hension...)

Au sein de ce d�partement, vos missions sont les suivantes :

Ing�nieur-chercheur logiciel (r�f�rence : ICLW)

Vous �tudiez, concevez et d�veloppez les outils internes de calcul
scientifique. La mise en place et l'int�gration d'environnements en
reconnaissance de la parole, t�l�phonie, etc... feront �galement partie
de votre mission. Les candidatures des d�butants seront prises en
compte.

Ing�nieur-chercheur en mod�lisation de la parole (r�f�rence: ICMAW)

Vous �tes responsable du calcul de mod�les statistiques du fran�ais pour
le traitement de la parole, au niveau acoustique ou linguistique. Fort
d'une premi�re exp�rience dans un domaine identique ou connexe
(laboratoire de recherche, universit�), vous avez des comp�tences en
math�matiques appliqu�es, statistiques, mod�lisation probabiliste et
programmation.

Pour ces deux postes, la ma�trise de l'anglais et la connaissance des
plateformes UNIX, Windows, des languages C/C++, ksh et Tcl/Tk sont
requises.
Seules seront envisag�es les candidatures de personnes parfaitement
francophones.
