New Zealand Department of Asian Languages: Senior Lecturer or Lecturer - equivalent to US Associate Professor or Assistant Professor. Chinese: Vacancy No. AL121. Applications are invited for this tenured position from persons who possess, or who are close to completing, a Ph.D degree in an area of Chinese Studies, and whose present research interests are also in Chinese Studies. Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in both modern standard Chinese (Mandarin) and English. A significant component of teaching duties will be in teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language. Preference may be given to applicants also qualified to teach one or more of the following: classical Chinese, Chinese civilisation, traditional Chinese thought and philosophy. Applications are invited for this tenured position from persons with a higher degree in an area of Japanese Studies; preference will be given to applicants who possess, or who are very close to completing, a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in an area of Japanese studies, and whose present research is in that area. The appointee's principal teaching duties will be in teaching Japanese as a second or foreign language. Applicants should have native fluency in modern Japanese and should also be able to communicate effectively in English. Some prior experience of teaching Japanese as a second language at the tertiary level, and an appropriate record of publications, are desirable. Candidates for appointment at Senior Lecturer level should already hold a Ph.D degree or equivalent, and have both substantial appropriate tertiary teaching experience and publications record.
