Ireland BT37 0QB U.K. UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER Faculty of Social and Health Sciences and Education School of Psychology and Communication Professor/Reader in Linguistics Ref: JOO/219/E The University seeks to appoint a Professor/Reader in Linguistics at the Jordanstown campus; specialisation open (theoretical or applied). The appointee will contribute to the further development of research programmes in linguistics. To this end the appointee will be expected to: Undertake research in linguistics at Jordanstown and disseminate the findings of such research as appropriate, including publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals. Supervise postgraduate (doctoral) research students in the area of linguistics. Seek external funding to support research programmes (where appropriate). Participate in appropriate administrative duties. Teaching loads will be commensurate with the level of the post. Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree, and a higher degree primarily by research in linguistics or a cognate area and have substantial research and teaching experience congruent with the level of appointment, evidence of research planning for publications and for grant funding (where appropriate) in the next five years. They must have experience of research staff and postgraduate student supervision and be eligible for inclusion in the 2000/2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) at grade 5. The successful applicant may be offered an appointment at professorial level if he/she has a doctorate in linguistics or a cognate area and has made significant contributions in the field of linguistics, achieving internal recognition in their specialism.
