Applications are being accepted for a limited-term position at the
rank of assistant professor, for an appointment commencing September
1, 2000. The position will carry a one year term, contingent on
budgetary approval.The successful candidate will be expected to teach
Modern Greek language and linguistics. In addition, the appointee will
become a key member of a research team developing on-line learning
materials and a self-instructional language program for Greek,
including an intelligent tutor employing artificial intelligence

The appointee would be responsible for the pedagogical design of the
materials, and would work closely with computational linguists and
other experts in the overall development of the system. This project
will be carried out in cooperation with agencies of the Ministry of
Education of Greece, and will require liaison with those agencies. The
appointment will be assigned to the Department of Linguistics. The
successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the Hellenic
Studies program and will collaborate with the Chair of Hellenic

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in applied linguistics, have experience
in teaching Modern Greek, maintain an active research program in
linguistics as it relates to language teaching and be familiar with
recent developments in technologically-assisted language learning.
