Amikai is looking for an intelligent, energetic and motivated Lexicographer to join our small, but rapidly expanding, international team. We offer an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to get involved with our young startup at a time when he or she can have a significant impact on the company. JOB DESCRIPTION: As Lexicographer, you would be in charge of assembling and maintaining the special dictionaries used on our site. Key responsibilities: � Build and maintain topic-specific dictionaries and proper noun lists for multiple languages � Regularly update dictionaries and noun lists to reflect current events and up-to-date language use � Use and understand commercial machine translation systems � Work closely with linguists, translators, developers, and designers to determine the subject matter and coverage of topic-specific dictionaries REQUIREMENTS: � B.A. or higher in Linguistics, or an allied field � Knowledgeable about the semantic and syntactic issues involved in lexicography, especially in the context of foreign-language dictionaries � Intermediate or higher language skills in as many of the following languages as possible: English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Korean, Italian, and Chinese are also plusses � Strong organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to work in a self-directed project environment � Real-world experience with dictionary building, either in corporate or academic worlds � Experience with machine translation systems preferred � Computational skills and interests desirable � Excellent communication skills required COMPENSATION: Amikai is a fun, energetic and ambitiously motivated company located right in San Francisco’s growing and vibrant Internet Gulch at the foot of Potrero Hill.
