linguistlist.org>Dear Subscribers, Before we advance too far into Y2K, we want to thank our donors once again for their generous support in 1999. And we would especially like to thank Mark Liberman and the Linguistic Data Consortium for giving us a home for the last 2 years. As some of you may remember, in 1997 we were suddenly stranded without an institution from which to distribute Linguist email, and we feared we would have to discontinue operations. Then Mark stepped in and offered us a Sun Ultra, a permanent Listserv license, the use of the Linguistic Data Consortium facilities, and the help of their excellent sysop, John Batzel. Last month we moved our mail distribution from the LDC to our editing site at Eastern Michigan University. But we will always remain deeply grateful to Mark and the LDC for their timely rescue-- it was a truly overwhelming act of generosity; and it made it possible for LINGUIST to continue. Thank you, Mark! And thanks once again to the 228 donors listed below. Your contributions allowed us to fund 6 student editors in 1999 and to embark on 2000 with high hopes of providing even better service in the coming year.
