*********************** FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS *********************** The First International Gender and Language Association (IGALA) Conference http://www-linguistics.stanford.edu/conferences/igala/ **NOTE NEW DATE** May 5-7, 2000 Stanford University, California Invited Speakers: Mary Bucholtz Don Kulick Sally McConnell-Ginet Panel discussion: The Future of Queer Linguistics The International Gender and Language Association invites abstracts for the first IGALA conference (formerly the Berkeley Women and Language Conference). We seek 20-minute papers that deal with language in relation to gender and/or sexuality. The conference is interdisciplinary, and we invite work on diverse languages from a variety of fields, including anthropology, education, feminist studies, linguistics, queer studies, and sociology. Each person may submit at most one individual and one jointly authored abstract. Submissions should consist of the following: * Title * Abstract text (no longer than 500 words) * Up to 3 key words identifying the subject matter of the presentation * Name(s) of author(s) (which should not appear in the text of the abstract) * Author affiliation(s), email, phone number, mailing address Abstracts should be submitted as a regular, single email message.
