The University of Oregon has open a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Japanese linguistics. We seek a functionalist who works in one or more of these areas: syntax and semantics, discourse analysis, language change, or sociolinguistics. Candidates should be prepared to offer graduate courses in linguistics and undergraduate language courses. The position begins September 16, 2001. Required are a Ph.D. in (Japanese) linguistics and native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English. Priorities are excellence in teaching and originality of research.
