Mathews, Room 3070 Urbana IL 61801 USA [Corrected - the full consideration deadline stated below is Jan 3, 2001] University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Division of English as an International Language Position Announcement -- Assistant Professor (tenure-track) The Division of English as an International Language (DEIL) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (nine-month / full time appointment) with specialization in Second Language Acquisition (SLA). The successful candidate will demonstrate both a well-defined research agenda and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Any area of specialization in SLA studies will be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates who can complement the Division's existing strengths in sociolinguistic approaches to SLA with more psycholinguistically-oriented approaches to SLA. Classroom ESL/EFL teaching experience is required. Native or near-native fluency in English is also required. Knowledge of computer applications to teaching and research is desirable. Fluency in a language other than English is also desirable. Responsibilities include teaching and advising in the Division's graduate M.A. TESL program and undergraduate departmental programs, and in the interdisciplinary doctoral program in SLA. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition studies, (Applied) Linguistics or a related field by the starting date of the appointment. The salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The starting date is August 21, 2001.
