Details are as follows: DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Rank: tenured assistant professor (koshi) or associate professor (jokyo^ju) Subject: Business English Duties: (1) teach about 6 or 7 90-minute sessions per week of Business English and other English courses to undergraduate students; (2) as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, the successful applicant will be expected do work shared by all faculty members in the Department of International Economics of Kumamoto Gakuen University (e.g. attending faculty meetings, serving on committees, leading groups of students abroad once every several years, etc.) Starting date: April 1, 2001 Salary: Salary will be determined in accord with the age, education, and professional experience of the successful applicant. A 36 year old person with eight years of teaching experience and a Ph.D. in hand, for example, could expect to earn about 9 million yen per year (over 80,000 U.S. dollars per year at current exchange rates; net income would be less due to Japanese taxes and other deductions) but the income of a person with lesser qualifications would be proportionately smaller. Salaries are only determined by standardized methods of calculation and are NOT negotiable. Terms of employment: Kumamoto Gakuen University does not distinguish between Japanese and non-Japanese faculty. Accordingly, all full-time faculty members begin their employment with the Japanese equivalent of tenure. The successful applicant will begin as a koshi or jokyo^ju but will have the same opportunities for advancement as other faculty members. Position includes: Travel allowance: 312,000 yen per year Moving allowance: negotiable Airfare: One-way travel to Japan for successful applicant and dependents Research allowance: 350,000 yen per year for purchase of books and equipment Computer budget: up to 1,000,000 yen for purchase of computer, equipment, and software every four years QUALIFICATIONS Degree requirements: MA required, PhD preferred. Subject specialization: English education, business education or related fields. Persons with practical business experience are encouraged to apply. Age: Less than 40 years of age as of April 1, 2001. English skills: The successful applicant must be a native speaker of English or possess an equivalent level of skill in both spoken and written English.
