The department of English at AUS, a non profit coeducational institution
of higher education formed on the American model, is seeking assistant
professors to teach ESL composition, Academic writing, and ESP courses,
and contribute to the new TESL graduate program.

Applicants should have a Ph.D in a relevant field and show evidence of
a commitment to excellence in teaching. While AUS emphasizes
undergraduate teaching, retention and promotion require that faculty
publish peer reviewed research. Initial contracts are normally for a
period of two years and are renewable. Rank will be determined by
previous employment history.

Faculty at AUS receive tax free competitive pay and an attractive
benefits package that includes free on campus furnished housing and
utilities, home leave roundtrip tickets for faculty and their resident
dependents between academic years, generous educational allowance for
up to two children from grade one through four years of higher education,
medical insurance and dental plan, yearly indemnity pay and other
benefits.

Interviews will be held at different sites. Positions are open until
filled with preference given to early applicants. Faculty who are
appointed must be in Sharjah by August 24, 2001. Applicants should send
CV's and a letter of application (including the name and addresses of
three references) addressed to Robert D. Cook, Dean, College of Arts
and Sciences to Chaimaaaus.ac.ae
