Available for the Academic Year 2001-2002. Salary: Placement on the salary schedule is dependent upon academic preparation and professional experience. Teaching Load: 12 semester units. Instructional Level: Undergraduate and Graduate Specific Position Characteristics: The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the department's offerings in syntax and teach courses in other areas of linguistics as well. Familiarity with diverse syntactic frameworks is desirable. Secondary areas of interest might include computational linguistics, historical linguistics, or language acquisition. Other faculty activities include engagement in research and scholarly activities; service at all levels of university governance and community outreach. Specific assignments will be dependent on departmental needs. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college. QUALIFICATIONS: Academic Preparation: An earned doctorate (PhD) with an emphasis in syntax is required for appointment to a tenure track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered for a Lectureship (temporary position) with the possibility of conversion to tenure track. Teaching or Other Professional Experiences: Evidence of a commitment to or potential for teaching excellence, and a strong interest in research and publication at the university level is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest and ability in grant writing. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
