L'Universit� de Lausanne (Facult� des Lettres) et l'Ecole
Polytechnique F�d�rale de Lausanne (Laboratoire d'Intelligence
Artificielle) cherchent � engager conjointement un(e)

 assistant(e) de recherche

travaillant en tant qu'assistant(e) dipl�m�(e) sous la supervision des
deux institutions.

Dans le cadre d'un projet de collaboration UNIL-EPFL, le candidat ou
la candidate, titulaire d'une licence ou d'un dipl�me de second cycle
universitaire en Informatique, Math�matiques appliqu�es, Physique ou
Linguistique computationnelle (ou d'un domaine apparent�) sera
charg�(e) de r�aliser un syst�me de classification et visualisation
automatiques de donn�es textuelles, impliquant des techniques de
traitement automatique du langage, recherche documentaire, analyse des
donn�es et m�thodes num�riques.

L'engagement initial concerne un poste � temps complet pour une dur�e
de 12 mois.

Une bonne capacit� de programmation et une aisance en math�matiques
appliqu�es sont indispensables. Des comp�tences en analyse de
donn�es, recherche documentaire et conception d'interfaces constituent
un atout certain.

The Human Science Department of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and
the Artificial Intelligence Lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) are opening a joint position of:

 GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT

to work within an UNIL-EPFL collaboration project under the auspices
of both institutions.

The successful candidate will be in charge of the design of a
prototype system for automated classification and visualization of
textual data, integrating advanced Natural Language Processing
techniques, Information Retrieval, Textual Data Analysis and Numerical
Approaches.

A Masters degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics,
Computational Linguistics (or related domains) is required.

The ideal candidate should have good programming skills as well as a
good experience in applied mathematics. Additional competence in NLP,
IR, Data Analysis and Interface Design would be a plus.

The initial appointment will be for the period of a year.

Starting date: January 2001 or as soon as possible.
