Aculab is a leading provider of components and systems for the Computer
Telephony industry. With branches throughout the World, Aculab's R&D is
based in Milton Keynes, UK. Both Aculab and Milton Keynes are rapidly
expanding, providing an exciting and challenging environment. Our
products include the Prosody (TM) speech processing platform, running
World-class multi-channel speech recognition and synthesis algorithms. 

We currently have a vacancy for a Linguist Engineer to join our
text-to-speech R&D team. The successful applicant will be responsible
for the development and specification of the text and linguistic
processing algorithms for Italian text-to-speech conversion. He or she
should be aware of the key issues in text-to-speech synthesis. A wide
range of linguistic knowledge is necessary, but some specialisation in
phonetics and/or phonology would be advantageous, as would knowledge of
prosody (e.g. intonation, rhythm and duration modelling). The position
would be suitable for somebody with a masters degree or higher in a
relevant field, although other graduates will be considered if they
possess relevant commercial experience. Programming skills are not
essential, but some knowledge – particularly of C and/or C++ -
would be an advantage.

We enjoy a relaxed working environment and an extremely flat management
structure, so candidates must also possess good organisational skills,
as there will be a high degree of responsibility for the project from
