CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT One Day Conference: Spoken bilingual databases: transciption, analysis, exchange Saturday 16th September 2000 Department of Linguistics and Modern English Language Lancaster University, Lancaster LA1 4YT, England This conference aims to bring together researchers working in different contexts with bilingual spoken data (code-switching and other forms of language contact) in any languages. The focus will be on issues of transciption, encoding, analysis (especially automated analysis), and exchange of data among researchers. The conference coincides with the publication (in June 2000) of the LIDES Coding Manual: A Document for Preparing and Analysing Language Interaction Data by the The LIPPS Group (Language Interaction in Plurilingual and Plurilectal Speakers). There will be a conference fee of 20 pounds which will include lunch. Limited on-campus accommodation is available. FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS WECOL 2000 Western Conference on Linguistics California State University, Fresno October 27-29, 2000 Parasession: SOUTH ASIAN and SOUTHEAST ASIAN LANGUAGES Deadline for Abstracts: 1 June, 2000 Papers are invited for the General Session in all areas of linguistic theory and for the Parasession on South Asian and Southeast Asian Languages. Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for Q&A). Abstracts should be anonymous, and should be no longer than one page, with one inch margins, in typeface no smaller than 12 characters per inch. An additional page with examples and references may be included. Please provide 7 copies of the abstract.
