H. van Santen vansantenMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueece.ogi.edu Address for Applications: 20000 NW Walker Beaverton OR 97006 USA The Center for Spoken Language Understanding (CSLU) at the Oregon Graduate Institute is seeking applicants for the position of Manager of Language Corpora and Spoken Language System Evaluation The key responsibilities of the Manager will include: * Collecting text and speech corpora * Applying and enhancing state-of-the-art speech processing tools * Supervising linguistic labeling of corpora * Documenting and reporting of projects * Designing and developing evaluation technologies We need a person who has: * A broad interest in language and speech science. * Excellent administrative skills. * Ability to do simple programming, with a strong motivation to learn more. * Ability and willingness to learn new tools. * Excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal, skills. * At least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field [linguistics, computer science, electrical engineering, psychology], with a master's degree preferred. CSLU has an international reputation in speech corpora and spoken language system evaluation. With the rapid expansion of speech technology business, CSLU is positioning itself to become a major supplier of sophisticated language and speech corpora for research and business and of evaluation services. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and highly motivated individual to secure a future for him- or herself in this growing field. The Manager will work closely with faculty at CSLU/OGI, both in the initial phase when he or she is learning to use our tools, and at later phases when it is hoped that he or she will help contribute to the further development of our toolset.
