To All Linguist List Subscribers I am presently doing a literature search for one particular article which exists somewhere, but unfortunately I know not where! It involves a matched guise test in which the effects of standard v. non-standard dialects on the management decisions of doctors was assessed, i.e. Surgery was more likely to be recommended for the clients with non- standard dialects. We are planning to carry out a similar study involving Belfast English and counsellors/general practitioners and would therefore be very grateful if anyone recognises the above research (or indeed can recommend anything similar).
