HRVATSKA AKADEMIJA i/kaj AKADEMIO DE ZNANOSTI I UMJETNOSTI ESPERANTO CROATIAN ACADEMY OF and ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND ARTS ESPERANTO International Symposium on Language Planning and Lexicology The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Academy of Esperanto are organizing a joint international symposium on Language Planning and Lexicology, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, July 28--30, 2001. The working languages are Croatian, Esperanto, English, and French. The opening ceremony of the Symposium will take place in the afternoon of Saturday, July 28, and the symposium will end in the afternoon of Monday, July 30, 2001. Venue The Palace of the Croatian Academy, Zagreb. Contributions Contributions to the symposium are invited. The deadline for abstracts for the session "Computer Corpora and the Study of English," scheduled to be part of the Midwest Modern Language Association meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, November 2-4, 2000, has been extended till Saturday, April 15, 2000. Contributions should offer case studies of how electronic corpora can shed light on the English language. The session has the purpose of raising awareness of the possibilities of corpus-based research in the US, and contributions drawing on American English, on British English, or on both, are welcome.
