Dear Subscribers, If you've been following The LINGUIST List Fund Drive, you know that we only need $5,783 to reach our goal of $35,000. In other words, we have received $29,217 from the 228 generous persons and institutions listed below. As you see from the donor list, our Y2k contributors include 178 individuals, 29 institutions, and 21 publishers, who donate in return for our announcing their linguistics publications on the list. This constitutes an increase of 8 individual donors over last year. And, speaking of individuals, some of you have asked us where our individual subscribers come from. Currently, our combined lists, LINGUIST and LINGLITE, have 12,000 subscribers, exclusive of those on the 49 redistribution lists which subscribe as single entities. Less than half of our subscribers come from the USA. In fact, they come from 99 different countries. The breakdown for LINGUIST, country by country, is the following: * Country Subscribers * ------- ----------- * Albania 1 * Argentina 38 * Armenia 1 * Australia 217 * Austria 50 * Bahrain 1 * Belarus 1 * Belgium 100 * Bolivia 1 * Botswana 4 * Brazil 53 * Brunei Darussalam 2 * Bulgaria 19 * Canada 467 * Chile 7 * China 27 * Colombia 3 * Costa Rica 1 * Cote D'Ivoire 2 * Croatia/Hrvatska 20 * Cyprus 3 * Czech Republic 19 * Denmark 69 * Ecuador 1 * Egypt 8 * Estonia 10 * Faroe Islands 1 * Fiji 5 * Finland 148 * France 210 * Georgia 1 * Germany 657 * Great Britain 639 * Greece 56 * Hong Kong 54 * Hungary 50 * Iceland 13 * India 11 * Indonesia 6 * Iran 11 * Ireland 43 * Israel 57 * Italy 118 * Jamaica 5 * Japan 549 * Jordan 3 * Korea 170 * Kuwait 3 * Latvia 1 * Lebanon 1 * Lithuania 4 * Luxembourg 5 * Macau 1 * Macedonia 4 * Malaysia 14 * Malta 3 * Mauritius 1 * Mexico 51 * Moldova, Republic of 1 * Morocco 9 * Netherlands 259 * New Zealand 39 * Nigeria 2 * Norway 110 * Oman 5 * Pakistan 3 * Papua New Guinea 2 * Peru 6 * Philippines 2 * Poland 43 * Portugal 54 * Qatar 2 * Romania 6 * Russian Federation 37 * San Marino 1 * Saudi Arabia 8 * Singapore 30 * Slovakia 5 * Slovenia 5 * South Africa 63 * Soviet Union 8 * Spain 285 * Sweden 125 * Switzerland 60 * Taiwan 131 * Thailand 27 * Tonga 1 * Tunisia 4 * Turkey 52 * USA 4,706 * Ukraine 2 * United Arab Emirates 5 * Uruguay 3 * Venezuela 4 * Viet Nam 3 * Yugoslavia 12 * Zambia 1 * Zimbabwe 1 * ??? 49 * We are very proud to think that LINGUIST is serving linguists across the world. But, of course, our services must be paid for by someone. If you have not yet contributed, will you please do so now? As a 501(c)3 organization, LINGUIST qualifies for corporate donation-matching programs; and, of course, your donation is tax deductible. You can donate via our secure credit card form at: http://linguistlist.org/donation-form.html or by sending your check to: The LINGUIST Editorial Support Fund Dept. of English Eastern Michigan U. Ypsilanti, MI USA 48197 If you like, you can hit "Reply" and send us your pledge by email, prior to sending your check. Then we will be able to list you immediately as one of our donors; and we may be able to reach our fund drive goal a bit earlier. If your donation is $30 or over and you would like a Linguist T-shirt or sweatshirt, remember to include your snail-mail address and size. Styles, prices, and photos are available at: http://linguistlist.org/funddrive.html With sincere thanks for your continued support.
