Subject: Typology Centre relocation

R.M.W. Dixon and Alexandra Y. Aikhenvald have relocated their Research
Centre for Linguistic Typology to La Trobe University in Melbourne,
Australia. The Centre has a number of Research Fellows, Visiting Fellows
and Doctoral Students who undertake fieldwork, write grammars of languages,
and pursue typological generalizations about language on an inductive basis.

We welcome inquiries from scholars of a similar ilk who are interested in
spending a sabbatical at RCLT.

The TRACTOR Network is launched on the 17th January 2000.
It is supported by grants from the European Commission.

Central and Eastern Europe.

What it TELRI?

TELRI is the T rans-

			L anguage
			R esource

Starting in 1996, TELRI has brought together a large and expert group of
scholars working in the field of language resources; it holds an annual
seminar, publishes newsletters etc.

	http://www.telri.de

TRACTOR has already amassed an impressive collection of data;
it aims to continue building up a large variety of corpus- and
lexicon-related software such as parsers, taggers, morphological
analyzers, corpus retrieval tools, concordancers and the like. All these
will be at the service of the world-wide community of users.

HOW TO USE TRACTOR

In order to download resources from the archive, you need to become a
member of the TRACTOR User Community (TUC).

For those who deposit resources with TRACTOR, access to the entire
collection is free. For others there is a small fee to establish
membership formally, so that the use of the archive can be controlled
and monitored in order to protect the intellectual property rights of
the resource providers.

FEES: Individuals and academic, public, or industrial organizations:
a nominal annual fee of 50 EURO (Western European members) or 20 EURO (rest of
Europe). Comparable conditions apply for members from outside Europe.

Members can download and use the resources for research purposes
without further charges. Users wishing to exploit the resources
commercially will be referred to the owners of the resources in order
to negotiate permission with them.
