The 1st CERLIS Conference, on 'Modality in Specialized Texts', will be held in Bergamo (Italy) on 5-6 May 2000. CERLIS (Research Centre on Languages for Specific Purposes) was founded in early 1999 in order to promote research in the area of languages for specific purposes both on a synchronic and a diachronic level, along two main methodological lines: one focussing on description and theoretical issues, the other on application and teaching perspectives. The Conference Programme (including abstracts) is available at http://www.unibg.it/cerlis/sem-cerlis.htm .
