Director of the Language Learning Center The College of Arts and Letters is seeking a Director of its Language Learning Center. The annual-year position will begin August 16, 2001. The Director will hold the rank of Academic Specialist and be appointed for a five-year fixed term with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance, program needs, and the availability of funding. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications for the position include: - Master's degree, doctorate preferred, in an area relevant to position responsibilities - Experience teaching a modern foreign language or English as a second language - Experience in developing computer-assisted, web-based and multimedia language learning materials - Familiarity with language learning software and hardware - Near native proficiency in one of the languages taught at MSU - Administrative experience - Ability to interact well with faculty, staff, and students The Director will report to the Dean and be responsible for: - Managing daily operations of the Center - Overseeing the LLC budget and participating in the regular Annual Program Planning & Review process - Supervising support staff - Providing leadership in the development of technology-based materials and programming - Encouraging and assisting language faculty and graduate students in the use of computerized and multimedia materials in their classes and research - Exploring and coordinating outreach opportunities with Michigan secondary school teachers Candidates should submit a letter of interest and a vita to David K.
