Research Position at ZAS, Berlin

Applicants are invited for a full time research position in semantics at
the ZAS (Research Centre for General Linguistics, Typology, and
Universals; http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de/) in Berlin from October 1,
2001 until December 31, 2002. There is a possibility for an extension
beginning on January 1, 2003.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or doctorate, or be very close to
finishing it. They should have a strong background in formal and lexical
semantics (especially temporal adverbials, tense and information
structure) as well as in generative syntax.

The candidate is expected to conduct research in a project on the
compositional semantics of the C-domain (Rizzi 1997). The focus of the
project is on the analysis of temporal and locative frame setting
modifiers and their interaction with the topic/comment structure of the
sentence.

The salary will be according to the normal range for researchers
("Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter"; BAT-O IIa) in Germany, with details
depending on the age and marital status of the applicant. Knowledge of
German is helpful but not required.

Applications should include a CV, the names of two references, sample
publications and a short statement outlining future research
plans. Applications and inquiries should be directed to:
