The ideal applicant (1) would be under 63 years old; (2) would have a doctorate or equivalent research and educational qualifications; (3) if the applicant is not a Japanese national, would have sufficient competence in Japanese to manage university matters, and (4) would have several years of teaching experience. 2. The official status will be that of full-time Associate Professor with a teaching load of eight to twelve hours, that is, four to six classes per week, including classes in the English curriculum. 3. For the non-Japanese citizen, appointment will be for three years, with probability of renewal. 4. Remuneration will be calculated according to the government procedure, taking account of age, qualifications and experience. 5. Accommodation in university housing is possible. In case there is no vacancy in university housing, the University will procure outside housing and cover a certain portion of the rent. 6. Qualified applicants are requested to airmail the application papers listed below to arrive at the office of General Affairs, Faculty of Regional Studies, Gifu University, by September 7, 2001. (1) Curriculum vitae with a recent photograph (Form 1; in Japanese) (2) A brief description of prior teaching experience and of published works (Form 2; in Japanese) (3) Photocopies or offprints of all published works (4) Abstracts of the three main published works (in Japanese; approximately 1,000 characters for each) 7. As final candidates will be asked to provide a health certificate, please be prepared to submit one on short notice. 8. The final decision will be made based upon a personal interview.
