The Department of Linguistics and English Language, University of Durham, UK is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Anders Holmberg to the Chair of Theoretical Linguistics, from 1st September 2001. We are grateful for the support we received from the linguistics community when that position appeared under threat. Along with its undergraduate offerings, the Department maintains a thriving community of graduate students, both MA and PhD, and has a strong track record of attracting research student support (ORS, ESRC and AHRB awards). Applications from well qualified graduate students are welcomed. The department has particular strengths in syntactic theory, phonological and morphological theory, language acquisition and Germanic, Celtic, Romance and Finnic linguistics.
