Position: Assistant Professor of Foreign Language/English as a Second Language Education (Tenure-Track) Qualifications: * Earned Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or related field with specialization in (1) Foreign Language Education and (2) English as a Second Language or TESOL Education * At least 3 years teaching experience in K-12 schools * Ability to pursue a research agenda and external funding * Ability to teach courses in foreign language and ESL theory and methods, assessment, and linguistics * Ability to work closely with Arts and Sciences faculty * Ability to teach from a multicultural perspective * Ability to integrate technology into instruction * Commitment to collaborative approaches * Bilingualism preferred * Knowledge of distance learning and other alternative delivery models preferred * Experience in school-based teacher education programs preferred Responsibilities: * Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in foreign language education * Teach graduate courses in ESL education * Supervise practicum and internship experiences * Maintain an active research record and pursue external funding * Serve on student and faculty committees * Advise students * Participate in program development * Collaborate with Professional Development Schools * Provide service within the University, to state and local educational agencies, and to related professional organizations Salary: Commensurate with experience Starting Date: August 16, 2001 Benefits: * Health and Life Insurance * TIAA-CREF Available * Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama * Summer employment possible * International teaching opportunities possible Application Deadline: Review of applications began on Dec. 11, 2000, and will continue until the position is filled.
