The successful candidate will fit with the department's focus on functional/historical/cognitive linguistics and commitment to working with primary (especially fieldwork derived) and empirical data. Applications from specialists in laboratory or historical phonology are especially welcome. The ideal candidate should also be fluent in current formal models of phonology. An additional specialization in discourse, cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, second language acquisition or first language acquisition is also sought. Evidence of excellence in teaching will weigh heavily in consideration of applicants for the position. Completed applications will be reviewed beginning December 1, 2001. Preliminary interviews will be held at the LSA meeting in January.
