CALL FOR PAPERS

The Research Group "La Lengua Inglesa en el �mbito Universitario" of the 
Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics at the University of 
Seville announces the 7th ELIA Conference (S�ptimos Encuentros de 
Ling��stica Inglesa Aplicada, ELIA VII), which will be held in Seville on 
March 7-8, 2002. The central theme of this convention will be Pedagogical 
and Reference Materials for teaching L2 English/Spanish.

Along the six previous editions, relevant national and international 
specialists in the field of Applied Linguistics such as Dr. Kathleen 
Bardovi-Harvig (Indiana University), Dr. Jasone Cenoz (University of the 
Basque Country) or Dr. Jenny Thomas (University of Wales at Bangor) have 
taken part in ELIA. ELIA VI (May 2001, Communicative Competence: Past, 
Present and Future) enjoyed the presence of, among others, Dr. Enrique 
Alcaraz (University of Alicante), Dr. Gabriele Kasper (University of 
Hawai'i) and Dr. Guy Cook (University of Reading). Dr. Jane Arnold 
(University of Seville), Dr. Angela Labarca (Georgia Institute of 
Technology) and Dr. Brian Tomlinson (Metropolitan Leeds University) have 
already confirmed their participation in the coming "S�ptimos Encuentros".

Since the central theme of the 7th edition is pedagogical and reference 
materials, proposals directly related to it will be given preference. 
Nevertheless, proposals related to other fields/areas within Applied 
Linguistics, especially the teaching, learning/acquisition and uses of 
English (either independently or in contact with Spanish or some other 
language) will also be admitted.

Application and proposal forms -including a 300-500 word abstract and a 
general outline- should be sent either to the Secretar�a de ELIA VII by 
mail, or to jmmartinzoom.es or mmarsiff.us.es by e-mail (RTF, ASCII, HTML 
format) before January 7, 2002.

the field of language teaching, linguistics (theoretical and applied) and 
language study. Refereed and edited by academic staff at the University of 
Northumbria, UK and the University of Buckingham, UK. Contributions are now 
requested for web-publication in 2002.
