First call for papers Laboratory Approaches to Spanish Phonology September 6-7, 2002 University of Minnesota Minneapolis, Minnesota Conference Organizer: Timothy L. Face Invited Speakers: David Eddington, University of New Mexico Jos Ignacio Hualde, University of Illinois Pilar Prieto, Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks (followed by 10 minutes of discussion) addressing any topic in Spanish phonology from an experimental perspective. The phrase "laboratory approaches" is intended in its broadest possible sense and includes any experimental work that offers insight into the sound structure of Spanish. This may include, but is not limited to, data from phonetic, perception, language acquisition, psycholinguistic, and speech disorder studies. Guidelines for abstracts are as follows: 1. Authors may submit only one abstract for the conference. 2. Abstracts (and talks) must be in English so that they are accessible to linguists who do not speak Spanish. 3. Submit a one-page, clearly titled abstract with at least one-inch margins and 12 point font size. A second page may be used for examples and references. 4. Send the abstract by e-mail attachment as a PDF file (preferably) or as ASCII text in the body of the e-mail message. Please include name(s) and affiliation(s) on the abstract (they will be removed electronically for abstract review), as accepted abstracts will be copied directly to the conference program. If sending ASCII text, use the SAMPA system for phonetic symbols: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/spanish.htm 5. In the body of the e-mail include the following information: title of paper, name, academic affiliation, current/summer address, current/summer phone and fax, and e-mail address to be used for notification and correspondence between May 1, 2002 and the conference.
