Dear Linguists, As many of you already know, the Query issues (Qs) are a very popular feature of LINGUIST List. In the year 2000, over 600 of you submitted a query to the list. Queries submitted this year have been on all subjects, from reference requests to judgements on syntactic constructions. They have covered languages from Old Frankish to Navaho. The large number of summaries (SUMs) of the answers posted suggests that the service works rather efficiently, and that those who seek do indeed find the answers. Moreover, the linguistic community, as a whole, benefits from the research included in those summarized responses. As with all LINGUIST issues, both Queries and Summaries are archived for your future reference on the LINGUIST website. And as with most services on LINGUIST, the Qs feature is completely free. But of course, it would not be possible for The LINGUIST List to maintain this popular service without the funding which your donations provide. Today is the 4th day of the 2001 Fund Drive. We have received $16,541 of the $40,000 we need to collect. We heartily thank all who have contributed; their names are listed at the bottom of this page. If you would like to make your contribution in support of the Queries service and The LINGUIST List in general, you can do so now by donating via our secure credit card form at: http://linguistlist.org/donation.html or you can send a check made out to "The Linguist Editorial Support Fund" to: The LINGUIST Editorial Support Fund c/o Helen Aristar-Dry Dept. of English Language and Linguistic Eastern Michigan University Ypsilanti, MI 48197 Or you can simply hit "Reply" to this message, make a pledge by email, and send your check later. Then we will be able to list you immediately as one of our donors; and we may be able to reach our goal (and halt these Fund Drive messages) a bit earlier. Remember, if you want a shirt, be sure to include your size, style preference, and a snail-mail address with your check or email pledge. As a 501(c)3 organization, LINGUIST qualifies for corporate donation-matching programs; and, of course, your donation is tax deductible. In return for a donation of $25 or more, we would like to send you a snazzy, dark blue LINGUIST T-shirt or sweatshirt. Go to http://linguistlist.org/funddrive.html for styles and prices, as well as photos of our fashion-conscious staff modeling this oh-so-elegant casual attire! And don't forget to find the "Singing Pig" on the LINGUIST Home Page and click for our sophisticated production, "The LINGUIST Fund Drive Experience"! Thank you in advance for your support of LINGUIST.
