Dear Linguists, Since LINGUIST gets more than 3 million hits a day worldwide, you probably have already noticed the new addition to our front page - free access to Glot International! From www.linguistlist.org, you can click on the Glot International link ( http://www.glotinternational.com/ ) and sample an unusual linguistics journal. In our opinion, Glot fills a gap among publications in linguistics; and we're pleased to make it available to you free as part of the LINGUIST List Fund Drive. In every issue, Glot publishes "State of the Articles", summaries of the most current research on a particular topic (like verb raising, coordination, optimality, and phrasal phonology). A "State of the Article" gives an overview of a topic, explains various approaches to it, and summarizes the most important articles on it. This fusing of all the research relevant to one topic can be an excellent tool for researchers, teachers, and students. Also in each issue, Glot highlights the newest research in linguistics by publishing summaries and reviews of two or three dissertations taken from diverse subfields of linguistics. Glot also makes a point of reviewing books in linguistics as soon as possible after the publication date. And it includes other features like interviews, squibs, conference reports, notices of new publications, and information about new software relevant to linguists. In helping you keep abreast of the newest research in other subfields of linguistics, Glot pursues some of the same goals as The LINGUIST List. We hope that the LINGUIST website (with its book announcements, conference roster, book and software reviews, job announcements, and thousands of links to other linguistics resources on the internet) is a valuable springboard to finding information useful to your research and your other professional pursuits. If so, please remember that the LINGUIST website and email list is available to you only through the work of the 9 graduate student editors who maintain all the LINGUIST List services. They give an extraordinary amount of time and energy to LINGUIST, but they also depend on it to finance their educations (and that means they depend on YOU, as LINGUIST List readers, to fund the "LINGUIST List fellowships." If you've been following The LINGUIST List Fund Drive, you know that we only need $4869 to reach our goal of $40,000. In other words, we have received $35,131 from the generous persons and organizations listed below. If you have not yet contributed, please do so now! You can donate via our secure credit card form at http://linguistlist.org/donation-form.html or by sending your check to: The LINGUIST Editorial Support Fund Dept. of English Eastern Michigan U. Ypsilanti, MI USA 48197 If you like, you can hit "Reply" and send us your pledge by email, prior to sending your check. Then we will be able to list you immediately as one of our donors; and we may be able to reach our fund drive goal a bit earlier. And remember, if your donation is $25 or over, you get a LINGUIST T-shirt! For larger amounts, you may qualify for a long-sleeved shirt or a sweatshirt. And new this year are baby T-shirts, size 2-4 years. For styles, prices, and photos go to: http://www.linguistlist.org/funddrive.html . Don't forget to let us know your mailing address and what style and size you would like! And don't forget to find the "nging Pig' "n the LINGUIST Home Page and click for our sophisticated production, "The LINGUIST Fund Drive Experience"! With sincere thanks for your continued support, The LINGUIST Crew, Anthony, Andrew, Helen, John, Terry, Simin, Karen, Lydia, Naomi, James, Michael, Ljuba, Jody, Marie, Gayathri, and Heather LINGUIST Contributors ANGELS ($1000 and Over) John Benjamins http://www.benjamins.com http://www.benjamins.nl Arendse Bernth Blackwell Publishers http://www.blackwellpublishers.co.uk Mark Cole Microsoft Corporation http://www.microsoft.com MAINSTAYS ($100 and Over) Anonymous Shanley Allen Karl V.
