Preparatory action for evaluation contests for Portuguese processing
Faro, Portugal, 27 June 2002 (post-workshop at PorTAL)

Evaluation is nowadays recognized as a driving wheel of R&D in natural
language processing, being both a research activity in its own and an
effective way to boost collaboration and progress to achieve a given result.


Providing means to evaluate the area is one of the goals the Computational
Processing of Portuguese project, and therefore we invite everyone concerned
with Portuguese NLP or language engineering to participate at a one-day
session to define courses of action and procedures to arrange evaluation
contests in several application areas.
