linguistlist.org>Dear Subscribers, We are positively thrilled to announce that our fund drive is over. We have broken our goal of $48,000 having raised close to $50,000 in subscriber donations! We cannot thank you all enough for your contributions. Each one of you has supported LINGUIST in your own special way during this year. We are especially grateful to our long-term donors who support LINGUIST year after year. We appreciate also the encouraging messages that many of you had the courtesy to send in your pledges, telling us how much you enjoy your t-shirts, how much you use our site, or just giving us your best wishes. Your messages helped us to work harder and reach this year's goal! This has been a very special fund drive, because we used it to launch major innovations in our web site. There is a new dissertation abstracts system, a new directory of linguists, a new publications area, and more, and they are all searchable by subject language. Your support has helped us develop these. And we will have many more new features to show you soon. Another launch was that of our new Swiss bank account. We very much appreciate the effort of Pius ten Hacken for establishing and maintaining this account for us. With this account, it is considerably easier to donate in currencies other than US dollars without using a credit card. We would also like to give special thanks to our Advisory Board for generously providing us with letters to use in the fund drive. We know that it must get very tiresome hearing from us day after day, and their "fresh voices" proved to be a welcome relief! The LINGUIST List succeeds only because you, our subscribers, support us so generously. Your donations go directly towards paying our student editors, without whom we could never keep going! As we've mentioned in our previous letters to you, our student editors not only provide you with the LINGUIST list and our variety of services, they also, with your support, go on to successful careers in linguistics and computer science. While our fund drive is officially over, and we have reached our official goal, we will certainly appreciate any donations or pledges that you still wish to send us. Each year the services we provide you are enhanced or expanded, and each year the costs of running the list grow exponentially. Your money never goes to waste. As you may know, we also have unexpected costs such as major repairs to our server. As an added bonus for donating, you will be entered into a prize draw, generously organized by Cascadilla Press.
