The Linguistic Association of the Southwest (LASSO) will meet October
4-6, 2002, in Los Angeles, hosted by California State University, Los
Angeles. The deadline for abstracts is June 1, 2002.
Abstracts for papers in any area of linguistics are welcome.
Abstracts for papers related to the conference theme ("Language
Variation, Contact, and Change: Focus on the Pacific Rim Crossroads")
are particularly encouraged.

Conference Announcement and First Call for Papers: THE 34TH ALGONQUIAN CONFERENCE October 24 - 27, 2002 Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario The 34th Algonquian Conference will be organized by Language and Linguistics at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Papers are invited on any topic dealing with Algonquian peoples including, but not limited to, language, history, art, archeology, ethnography and anthropology. We especially encourage papers which explore issues of diversity and change, particularly as they relate to the preservation of the languages and cultures of Algonquian peoples. Papers may be delivered in English or French. Speakers will be allowed 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. Please indicate any equipment needed for your presentation.
