RESEARCH POSITION IN CONTEXTUAL COMPUTING AT XRCE, FRANCE A Research Engineer position is available in the context of the European project MILK (Multimedia Interaction for Learning and Knowing). The project is funded by the European Framework V Programme and is due to start in February 2002 for 30 months. MILK is a multidisciplinary project including computer scientists, ethnographers and interaction designers and builds on the success of a previous project, Klee&Co., which was addressing contextual access to documents. MILK will extend the model developed in Klee&Co. by building services to make documents relevant to the context available across several devices (pc, mobile, large interactive screens). The main contribution of Xerox Research Centre Europe will be in designing and implementing an ambient display providing relevant documents and information on large interactive screens in dependence of the detected social context. The work in the project will be carried out in a multi-disciplinary team and will address both the context modelling and the interaction design aspects. If you have a solid background in user profiling and/or personalisation and adaptation of services, and some experience in the field of interaction design and information modelling then you should take this opportunity to join a motivated and dynamic team, which seeks to combine world-class research work with practical experimentation. The work requires a good balance between scientific and technical excellence, and good skills in communication. You should have a scientific background from academic or industrial research, and you will typically have a Ph.D. XRCE offers excellent salaries and benefits (and relocation package), excellent computing facilities and the opportunity to work in a leading international research institute. The successful candidate will be located in Grenoble (France), in the foothills of the Alps, providing access to some of the best outdoors in the world.
