CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT "Manipulation in the Totalitarian Ideologies of the 20th Century" Monte Verit�, Ascona (Switzerland) 29/9 - 3/10, 2002 THEME The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers on manipulative discourse in order to share their views and to compare the methodologies they use to define, capture and analyse manipulation through language use. The topic of the conference involves a specific attention to ideological discourse within totalitarianism in the 20th century, although a few talks will address related issues. The conference has a cross-disciplinary goal: speakers will not only include linguists but also historians, journalists and political scientists. VENUE The conference will be hosted by the "Stefano Franscini Centre" of Monte Verit�, Ascona (http://www.csf-mv.ethz.ch/). The Centre, located in the scenic environment of the hills surronding Lake Maggiore is able to offer high quality accomodation at moderate costs.
