University or Organization: Agence universitaire de la Francophonie Rank of Job: Director Specialty Areas Required: Translation, juristranslation Required Language(s):French (FRN) Description: As part of a program to normalize the place of the French language within the code of laws of Vauatu, financed by the Intergovernment Agency of the Francophone and the Agency for International Development of Canada, the State Law Office of Vanuatu is recruiting a: Experienced Law Translator Duties and Responsibilities include: - Responsible to the government of Vanuatu - Head of the first project to codify in French the laws of Vanuatu; supervising a team of three (head of the project, 1 legal expert and 1 clerk); consolidating existant French texts and French translation in keeping with extant texts in English; preparing reports for the scientific committee the project. - Building the capacity of the State Law Office to work in French with a view to bilingual law and jurisprudence, subject to the availability of Francophone staff and workloafd of the SLO. Continued training specializing in the area of legal translation, in co-ordination with the Head of Language Services at the Centre Universitaire Francophone of Vanuatu. Required Experience and Qualifications - Diploma in Law - Professional experience for at least 10 years in the area of legal translation and editing - Ability to share his/her skills in a multisultural environment and take part in contiuned training. - Native fluency in French, very good knowledge of English Duration of contract and start 2 years from October 2002 Salary Based on international standards of legal translators (up to EURO 45000 per year), with an additional stipend for housing and transportation to Vila.
