The Department of English at Arizona State University is seeking to make an appointment at the assistant/associate professor level (tenure track) in Applied Linguistics or American Literature. In addition to disciplinary expertise, the successful candidate will have expertise in information literacy and information technology and will contribute to the implementation of a college-wide curricular initiative dedicated to achieving information technology and information literacy for all undergraduate college students. Faculty recruited for this initiative will provide leadership for the Department of English, and throughout the college by collaborating with other faculty on a steering committee, to restructure degree programs and existing courses as well as to develop new courses to help achieve the goals and competencies of this initiative. Required qualifications: Ph.D. or terminal degree in field by the time of appointment; evidence of success in working with students and faculty in integrating technology in the classroom. Area of specialization either Applied Linguistics or American Literature or. Preference for Applied Linguistics given to curriculum and materials development (ESL). Preference for literature given to pre-1900 American. Publications in area of specialization desired. Evidence of college teaching and of expertise in information technology and information literacy essential. The English Department at ASU consists of 54 tenure-track faculty, 12 lecturers, 19 instructors, 30 faculty associates, 211 graduate students, and 472 undergraduate majors.
