The Seventh Quadrennial International Conference on Armenian Linguistics Papers are invited dealing with any aspect of the linguistic structure (including but not limited to historical linguistics, dialectology, phonology, morphology, and syntax) of any variety of Armenian. Keynote lectures will be delivered by Anaïd Donabédian (Paris), Theo van Lint (Oxford), and Jos Weitenberg (Leiden). The First Annual Conference on Modern Western Armenian Scholars and interested individuals have long been keenly aware of the need for serious and systematic studies of Modern Western Armenian as one of the two literary standards and as a key to modern Armenian tradition. This annual gathering is being launched with a view to promoting research into all phases of Modern Western Armenian language and linguistics. Although devoted to MWA, papers on Modern Eastern Armenian are equally enthusiastically invited. While format and content will certainly vary, emphasis will be placed on general linguistic and comparative approaches. Keynote lectures will be delivered by two invited scholars in the field. Professional teachers of Modern Armenian (both Eastern and Western) are invited to submit papers and/or attend the conference, as we intend to form an association of teachers of Modern Armenian. For this first gathering we envisage approximately twelve twenty-minute papers in addition to the two ninety-minute keynote presentations. General information Scholars and students of all phases of Armenian and of linguistics are cordially invited to participate in the conference. Prospective participants should submit a one-page abstract as soon as possible but no later than April 30, 2003. The abstract should clearly indicate the name and institutional affiliation of the participant, title of the talk, document format (if sent as an attachment), should include copies of any special fonts used, and should be sent by electronic mail to Bert Vaux at vaux
