We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate. In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query. To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

download - sound files of ancien franais?

Thank you,

Dear Linguists!

I would be interested to learn whether the article by MacFarquhar and
Richards 'On Dictionaries and Definitions' (published in 1983 in RELC
Journal) has ever been reviewed. The only thing I was able to find was
a brief comment in Cowie (1999). I would like to make use of the
procedure that MacFarquhar and Richards followed in their study
(modifying its contents, though, by including more dictionary types
and tasks) that is why any feedback on that article is more than
welcome. Also, I would be very pleased to get to know lexicographers
(but also general linguists, or semanticists) interested in the
problems of defining meaning in dictionaries. I will post a summary
of what I have got received
