University or Organization: Microsoft Corporation Department: Natural Language Group Rank of Job: Program Manager - Software Development Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics, Morphology Description: The Natural Language Group is looking for an experienced program manager to help shape the future of NL analysis for search and document creation applications across Microsoft. NLG's components are used by a broad range of applications to get smarter, more useful features based on the users' own words (be they in Japanese, or French, etc.) As PM for the Lexical Services Platform you will drive the first release of a multi-language component platform that supports tokenization, morphology, spelling, compounding, and other word and phrase level natural language analysis. This is a key PM role in NLG, and will play a significant part in the formation and fulfillment of the group's long-term strategy. To thrive in this job you'll need great PM skills, plus experience with natural language techniques and algorithms. Most importantly, you'll need a passion for turning NL techniques into better user experience for a wide range of customers-from IR and search to support for document understanding features. We are a product group with a focus on enabling high value-add features that give great benefits to the end user - successful PM's in our group can visualize the potential of NL technologies while using pragmatism and experience in applying the technology to provide significant customer benefit for MS products in the short term. Responsibilities include driving the overall LSP project plan, representing the customer while working with development on system design, specification and scheduling of features, and communications with team, management, and clients. Cross-team coordination skills and the ability to manage dependencies are also required. Preferred experience includes 3+ years of successful PM track record, experience with the application of text analysis to search or documents applications, knowledge of cross-language issues, degree in either Computer Science or Linguistics and, or equivalent industry experience. A specific background in computational linguistics, information retrieval, or information extraction is highly desirable.
