The SALA conferences cover a wide range of issues in the study of South Asian Languages. A non-exhaustive list includes descriptive linguistics, historical linguistics, language teaching, sociolinguistics, and theoretical linguistics. SALA XXIII Call for Papers South Asian Languages Analysis Roundtable October 10-12, 2003 The University of Texas, Austin INVITED SPEAKERS Shobhana Chelliah (North Texas) Megan Crowhurst (Texas) Veneeta Dayal (Rutgers) Vijay Gambhir (Pennsylvania) Paul Kiparsky (Stanford) Anoop Mahajan (UCLA) Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations (plus 10 minutes of discussion) on issues related to South Asian languages and linguistics. The SALA conferences cover a wide range of issues in the study of South Asian Languages. A non-exhaustive list includes descriptive linguistics, historical linguistics, language teaching, sociolinguistics, and theoretical linguistics. Papers that relate to the following issues are specially welcome: the description and analysis of the underdocumented languages of South Asia (including Tibeto-Burman and Iranian languages, Indo-Pakistani Sign Language and Romani), and the teaching of South Asian languages at an advanced level. All abstracts should be submitted by e-mail as attachments to sala23
ccwf.cc.utexas.edu, specifying `Abstract' in the subject line and the following information in the body of the message: - author's name(s) - title of abstract - area of linguistics - affiliation - e-mail address - postal address Abstracts should be anonymous and be either in .txt (plain text, preferable) or .pdf formats. Abstracts should be limited to two pages (using 1'' margins on all sides and 11pt font size) including examples and references. If, for any reason, you are unable to submit the abstract by e-mail, please contact the organizers.
